At the time, I was watching those people, watching how they were ageing, how they
were all getting older and were sick in some way or another. Right then I saw my
brother and I and realised that this is our time. Then I felt a kind of sadness.
Looking now, out of the big window at Diva's and that kicks in again. A rush of
energy. My god, look at us. Do it now. Look at our bodies, our thick chests and faces
and hands and breath. Look at us walk and trample and drink after drink after
drink. Listen carefully to the words you whisper into her ear.
This is our time, like looking at photo's when we're older. This is our time, that we'll
cry over, that our children will be mystified by. They'll spend their whole lives
trying to imagine us then. "Who's that?". That's Ruth I met the day before I left for
Joburg. The day before I had this idea. Before I looked up at my brother and realised
that this is our time and our parents knew it too. They are happy that we know.
